Doris Eilene Turner, 83 of Decatur went to be with the Lord, at 8:15 p.m., December 15, 2011 in Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana, IL.

A service to celebrate Doris’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Mound Road Christian Church.  Interment will be at Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City, IL at 2:00 p.m. on December 20, 2011. The family would like to receive friends for a time of visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2011 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Mound Road Christian Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association

Doris was born February 21, 1928 the daughter of James W. and Freda (Sparks) Miller.  She was raised on the family farm near Beecher City, IL.  She attended Beecher City Church of Christ.  She graduated from Cowden High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville.

She married the love of her life, Roy Allen Turner on February 27, 1949 in Effingham.  Roy and Doris settled in Decatur.  They were blessed with two sons: Michael Allen in 1954 and Richard William in 1960.  Doy, as she was known by her family, believed that family was second only to her God.

She retired from Millikin National Bank in 1993 and spent several years traveling with friends.   She especially enjoyed her trips to Florida.  Her friends were a bit concerned as she tackled the traffic in the larger cities.  She and several of her friends were known as the Magnificent 7.  They enjoyed laughter and meals together.

Roy and Doris helped Mound Road Christian Church grow from a dream.  They helped with the construction of the current church building.  Doris was a faithful member until her death.  She participated in the JOY (Jesus first, Others’ second, Yourself third) activities and classes.  She also was part of the women’s group.  When help was needed, she was there.

Doris will be greatly missed by her son: Richard William Turner of Decatur; brother: Walter Miller and his wife June of Beecher City, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Michael Allen; granddaughter, Natalie, parents; and her sister, Mildred and her husband, Lynn Wood.

Although she slowly faded away from us, we now have the peace of knowing that she is in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We will find comfort in her favorite Bible reading: Psalm 23.

Cecilia Bourguet My deepest condolences September 4, 2015

My condolences, as feelings of pain and bitterness become unbearable. It is my desire to convey a comforting thought based on the Holy Scriptures

John 5:28 "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."

This passage speaks of the resurrection of our loved ones. It is not God's plan to see us suffer and die, so He extends the following invitation to us: "Come near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8)

Rich:

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom.  Doris was a great lady, and I was privilaged to get to know her for a short time.  I know that this is a difficult time of the year, but have peace that she is in a much more wonderful place to celebrate the birth of Christ.  God bless!
